NATIONAL NONPROFIT DAY

August 17th is National Nonprofit day! As a nonprofit, this year has been a unique one for us. Our mission and heart has always been to meet the needs in our community and even with the challenges that we faced this year, we continued to do just that.

In the fall of 2020 City Kids School opened for in-person learning. While adding extra safety measures and precautions teachers continued to educate children and help them learn and grow in an engaging learning environment. To support the learning needs of children who were participating in remote learning City Kids School opened a Micro School, where a teacher supported and facilitated children’s remote learning in a safe environment during students school hours. As we head into the 2021-2022 school year City Kids School is remaining open for in-person learning to continue supporting the educational needs of the children in our community.

At the beginning of the pandemic the Child Placement Agency team had to change the way we worked with families and children. The team quickly transitioned to working remotely and utilizing technology for all our programs and services. The licensing process, case management, family time visits between children and biological family, children being placed in homes, and Children’s Activities all became virtual. Although it was hard to not see one another in person and provide services the way that we normally do, the CPA team, foster families, and volunteers all remained resilient and continued moving forward at full capacity.

Since the start of the pandemic the CPA licensed six new families and eight children were placed into foster homes. During a time of uncertainty, hardship, and loss in the world it is incredible to see so many families continue to choose to go through the licensing process and open their home to care for vulnerable children in the community.

We don’t know how the rest of this year will look but City Ministries will continue to do everything we can to help families and children in the community and make our corner of the world a better place.
