City Kids school exists to provide support, and partner with parents in raising children to succeed in their diverse environments, nurture a hope for a better tomorrow, courage to face today, and the skills to thrive right where they are. Jesus is at the center of all that we do.
One of our most important values at City Kids School is we are a family, this means that we invest in each other and spend time together playing and learning about the world. In other words, what we do, we do together. We believe that teaching about who Jesus is, is important, but what’s even more impactful is showing every student Jesus’ love through our everyday interactions. From welcoming them in the morning, to sitting down together during snack time, we want them to notice that there is a common theme through every activity, “you are loved”.
We believe that a developmentally appropriate approach to learning is key for children to grow and thrive. In our school, this is achieved by intentionally choosing materials and preparing the environment in a way that fosters discovery, creativity, play and togetherness. This idea of togetherness is at the core of how we interact with every child. Simple actions like getting down to their level and making eye contact, shows them important values such as empathy, genuine care and ultimately love. Our model for this is Jesus, he teaches us how to be with one another in a way that demonstrates his love for us, and our goal is that every child will learn that the greatest gift we have is being in relationship with Jesus and each other.
At our school we value play and creative expression as a way for children to learn and master important skills. Teaching about pumpkins means that we will go to a pumpkin patch, and we will bring a pumpkin to the classroom, we will open it and probably roast and eat some of the seeds. By doing this we make sure that several learning styles are included. We want children to fall in love with learning and knowledge and one of the ways we do this is by following their lead in terms of what interests them and then preparing the classroom to elicit the integration of concepts for permanent and lasting learning.
We know that children learn best when they feel safe and secure, so for us that is our priority, for them to be certain that this is a safe place and that they are loved no matter what. Our heart is to make every family feel welcome, seen, heard and valued and for every child to find their place in each classroom through exceptional teachers that help them grow in every area so that their future is as bright as they deserve. We will continue to work towards providing a beautiful space for children, to be grounded in Jesus and free to live their best life.
See you next week!
