BETTER TOGETHER

City Ministries ended the summer with our Annual Summer Barbecue last weekend, bringing together families, staff, and volunteers for a fun time of good food, games, and connecting with one another.

In 2002, City Ministries was born out of a desire and vision to help children and families in our community by providing educational services through City Kids School and social services through City Ministries Child Placement Agency. 16 years later under the direction of executive director, Cheryl Haskins and school director, Sheryl Nelson City Ministries is living out its vision in our community wholeheartedly through the daily dedication and selfless work of foster families, teachers, staff, and volunteers.

Coming together was a beautiful reminder that this is how we make a difference in our community: together. Every person has their own unique role and different responsibilities, but we work together  with the same vision for the same purpose, and with the same heart.

Foster parents who lovingly open their home as a safe and welcoming environment to children in need and devote time and energy to advocate for each child every day that they are in their care.

Teachers who work with children daily to help foster growth, a desire to become lifelong learners, and equip them for a bright and successful futures.

Case workers who work diligently to place children into suitable homes and walks alongside each foster family and child through the duration of the case, facing the unknowns together, and supporting them through every hurdle that comes their way.

Staff workers who work relentlessly to recruit more foster parents, implement more programs to help children in the community, and provide resources to advocate for children and families in crisis.

Volunteers who provide opportunities for children to come together for fun monthly activities. Who support the reunification process by taking foster children to visits with their biological parents, and who support foster parents by giving them much-needed breaks.

It is every single one of these individuals working together and generously giving their skills and time that brings City Ministries vision to life every day. We can’t do it all on our own but together we can impact our communities in ways that will affect many generations to come.

So, we stand together in unity doing our part. Investing in the future generation, providing safe, nurturing homes to children, and advocating well for the needs of every child.

Together, with the help of every staff worker, foster parent, volunteer, and teacher we will continue to make a difference in our community. One day at a time. One child at a time.
